# Logging hours

Hours lets employees log their working hours by category — useful for subsidies, specific arrangements or simply for internal insight.

### Setting up as an HR admin
You set up time tracking via **Company settings → Hours**. First you choose who registers hours:
* **Nobody** — time tracking is off and colleagues won't see it at all.
* **Everyone** — all colleagues log their own hours.
* **Selected colleagues** — you manually choose which colleagues track their hours via a search screen.

### Creating categories
Once time tracking is turned on, a **Categories** section appears. This is where you create the projects or topics employees can log their hours against. Click **Add category** to create a new one and give it a name and colour.

Via the three dots next to a category you can **edit**, **archive** or **delete** it.

### Logging hours as an employee
If logging hours has been enabled for you, you'll see the **Hours** button in the top right of your Pulse. You can also go to your time tracking overview via **You → Hours**

You'll see a weekly overview per category. For each day you enter the number of hours you spent on a category. Click a cell to fill in your hours. At the bottom you can also add a **note** per cell. Click **Save** to store your hours.

Use the arrows at the top to navigate to a different week, or click **Today** to jump back to the current week.

### Viewing the report as an HR admin
As an HR admin you see all logged hours via HR → Reports → Hours, by category or by person. How that report works is explained in [Viewing the Hours report](https://help.heartsome.co/en/article/viewing-the-hours-report-1ra3ve3/).

|| Note: Logging hours is off by default and only visible to employees for whom it has been enabled. If it's off, colleagues won't see it at all.
